Limited Resources, Limitless God

John 6:5-13  5 Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” 6 He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.

7 Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money[a] to feed them!”

8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9 “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”

10 “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.

This was a reading we were studying recently.  And given all the financial problems I am having lately, and my limited options for solving them, it was just what I needed to be reading.  God knows!!

I saw what Phillip and Andrew said in verses 7-9....they saw what was in the natural, the physical world that they could see and touch, much like I have been doing with my finances.  Mostly we have a tendency to see only what is humanly possible or impossible.  Limits.

But Jesus knew.  Jesus knows.  Nothing is impossible with God!  "Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people..."

God used this passage to let me know that He knew all about my limitations.  He also let me know that He is limitless.  And as I take the blessings that I have, little or much, and give thanks to Him for them, He will provide for my needs as well as giving me enough to bless others.  I believe He also wanted me to remember that the key to this was giving thanks.  Instead of focusing on what I don't have and worrying over it, I am to give thanks for what He gives.  He is faithful, able and limitless!!

Thank You Lord for a timely lesson in you as my provider.  I thank You for all that You give and all that You do.  If I need it You will provide it, if  You don't provide it, then I don't need it.  You are my all in all.....what was it from a few weeks ago, "only one thing is needed."  Lord, sometimes it seems like all around me is never enough, help me to rest in You, knowing that You will care for me.  Help me not to fret over financials needs.  Help me to trust more.
