Personal Walk, Part 1, from Mom

Today was my Mom's Birthday.  And even though she now celebrates in Heaven with her Savior, to me it's still her special day.   "Personal Walk" is the entry from her journal that we are up to and since it's her birthday, I thought it appropriate to share her words today.  Mom wrote some Scriptures and advice for making our personal walk with the Lord alive, focused and fruitful.  Enjoy.

Remember:  Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

When facing temptation:  Philippians 3:12-21 12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.  15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.  17 Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. 18 For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth. 20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Press toward the goal, ask the Lord's help to overcome our flesh today.

Lord grant me grace this day
to walk the straight and narrow way.
To do whatever in Thy sight
is good and perfect, just and right,
in You, for You to be seen in me.
And You, Your kingdom to be glorified.
(I don't know the author of this prayer)

Lord, I pray to overcome my flesh today, right now.  Thank You.  Let my speech always be with grace (Your love), that I may know how to answer.  Colossians 4:6   Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.  Today Lord God, supply me with whatever I need to do Your will and to be in Your will.  Holy Spirit help me to know what my one specific job is today and step out in faith and do it God's way.

Put on Jesus Christ daily.  Colossians 4:2-5  2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. 3 Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. 4 Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.  5 Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.

vs 2  continue earnestly in prayer with thanksgiving.
vs 3  that God would open a door for others to see Christ.
vs 4  that I make it clear as I speak.
vs 5  that I walk in wisdom to those that are outside.

From me.

Scriptures to pray over, meditate on and remember.  We are new creations, but old habits die hard.  We need perseverance on this walk!  I believe the more we stay in touch with the Holy Spirit throughout the day, the more success we are going to have.  Staying in God's Word is so important to our journey with Jesus.  And pray, pray, pray.

Lord, I echo my Mom's prayer above.  Help each of us to put on Jesus today and walk out the newness of life You say is ours.  Lift us up when we fall, keep us humble and keep us going forward.  In Jesus' Name.  Amen.

What can you do to keep the Lord at the forefront of your thoughts?
