Needs, from Mom

James 5:13-18  Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.  16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. 17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! 18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.

God responds to petitions by releasing His supernatural power.

Our desire:  be zealous, humble oneself, on knees, be fervently sincere, expect an answer, keep on praying despite Satan's barriers.

God will answer:  keep on praying until the matter is resolved or God makes it clear that the request is outside His will.

From me:

God does answer prayer.  The trouble for us is He doesn't always answer according to our will, but His own.   Matthew 26:39  He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”  Even Jesus experienced this.  He had to submit His will to the Father's so that the greater good would be accomplished.   We must always remember that even if we don't get the answer we want, we will get the answer that brings the most blessing.  Romans 8:28   And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.  He will always do good.  Matthew 7:7-9 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.  9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?

God expects us to persevere.  Sometimes we wait a long time for answers. Sometimes the answer is "No." I can't pretend to know why God does what He does, or how and when He does it.  Our Father is all knowing and can be trusted, of this I am sure. I have had many prayers remain unanswered as of yet, but I am also seeing prayers that I know my Mom prayed being fulfilled now, almost five years after she has gone on to be with Jesus.   Like Mom said, don't give up until you know God has made clear His answer.  And always trust the kindness of His heart, the love He has for us and the ultimate and infinite wisdom that is His alone.

Lord, teach us to submit to Your loving will, Your infinite kindness and wisdom.  Teach us to remain in faith in persevere in prayer.  We know You have only good in mind.  And we know that Your ways are so much higher than ours.  Help us to trust.  Thank You for the answers we have seen and the wonderful answers we will see.  Thank You for loving us too much to ever give us anything that is not only good, but the best.  Increase our faith.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.

Don't give up.   Meditate on Psalm 40 as you wait for the Lord's answers.  It's a great pattern for our lives, especially as we wait on God's answers and timing.

Psalm 40

1  I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.

4 Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols.
5 O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
    You have no equal.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them.

6 You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand—
you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.
7 Then I said, “Look, I have come.
As is written about me in the Scriptures:
8 I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart.”

9 I have told all your people about your justice.
I have not been afraid to speak out,
as you, O Lord, well know.
10 I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart;
I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power.
I have told everyone in the great assembly
of your unfailing love and faithfulness.

11 Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me.
Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me.
12 For troubles surround me—
    too many to count!
My sins pile up so high
I can’t see my way out.
They outnumber the hairs on my head.
    I have lost all courage.

13 Please, Lord, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
14 May those who try to destroy me
be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble
    be turned back in disgrace.
15 Let them be horrified by their shame,
for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!”

16 But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”
17 As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay.
