Old Song Alert

We've been studying Romans on Friday mornings and the lyrics to this song were written out on one of the pages.  I couldn't remember if I had heard it before, so I listened to it and fell in love.  What beautiful words, lovely melody.  As much as I love new Christian music, the old hymms are always so soul stirring.

I think my favorite verse is the last one, which describes the indescribable.  We don't have enough ink and paper to ever tell the whole story of God's love for us.  This love was spoken of in our chapter of Romans these past weeks.

Romans 5:5-11 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.  6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

The question was given, "How are you tempted to doubt God's love for you?  What truths from this passage can you bring to mind when those doubts arise?"

I spent some time thinking on this and found myself comforted with God's visit.  Not only was this a "today" visit, reminding me of His unfailing, unconditional love for now, I was reminded of the ultimate "God visit" when Jesus came to earth filled with the Father's love and plan for our redemption.

Scripture always brings God's Presence to the room.  Even if we can't feel it, we can know it.  John 1:1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John tells us how Jesus is the Word.  And the Word was (and always will be) God.  So when we open the Bible, we are inviting God's Presence to visit with us.  Or us with Him.  LOL

In the case of Romans 5, we are surrounded by His love and the immensity of it.  The uncontainable, eternal, redeeming, active and reaching for us, love.  I am in awe!

Lord, thank You that before we loved You, or even knew You, You loved us.  You sought us.  You redeemed us.  Truly, all the ink in the world, the universe even, and scroll after scroll stretching across the sky, would never be able to tell of the completeness of Your love for us!  Help us to remember that, remember Your heart through each moment of our days, especially the hard ones, the ones where life falls apart, the ones where we repeatedly fail.  Remind us nothing changes Your love, and help us to love You with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.  It's in the Name of Jesus, the One who personifies this love in the flesh, we pray.  Amen.
