He Is

In the book of Daniel we read about a time yet to come...a time of great distress that will come upon the inhabitants of Earth.  We studied Daniel recently in our Sunday morning Bible study and my Pastor commented that many equate the scroll that was sealed up here was the same scroll that would be opened in the end times of Revelation 5.   That makes sense to me.

Daniel 12:1-4  “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise[a] will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”

Daniel 12:8-10   I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?”  9 He replied, “Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.

Revelation 5  Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”  6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”

14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

This all goes together with the new worship song I've been hearing a lot lately by Chris Tomlin and it's all brings my heart to such an amazing place of praise and urgency for our Lord.

So often our lives get messy and difficult and we forget that there is so much more to come for God's children.  There will come a time when every distress of life will be swept away.   We need to remind ourselves of this often, especially when life feels like an uphill battle.

Revelation 21:4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

This gives us something so wonderful to look forward to.  A light of hope that can carry us through the dark times.  It also should inspire in us a sense of urgency for those who don't know the Lord.
We are given two possible outcomes for people in Revelation.

Speaking of God's new city....Revelation 3:5  Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 20:15  Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

It's so important that we share the Gospel with everyone we can.  Eternity rests on it.  We, as Christian have such an awesome hope for the future, and I want to see everyone I know have the same hope and the same assurance.

Our Savior is worthy.   He is able to save beyond anything we could imagine.  Deserving of all our praise.  And a beautiful gift to share in the lives of those around us.  These verses of Scripture should lead us to praise our Lord and share His message.

Lord, I am in awe of You.  I bow before You and worship You in Your holiness and beauty.  You are worthy to receive all praise and honor and glory and blessing!  You alone are worthy!  You alone are the one who can save.  You alone are our hope and our deliver and You alone make all things new.  Lord, give us hearts that sense the urgency of the Gospel.  Lead us to share it wherever we are, and with whoever You lead us to.  Give us boldness and put Your words in our mouths that will be received with gladness.  Let You Name be lifted up and glorified.   In our Savior's most worthy Name.  Amen.

Take time for worship today!
