One Time Thing, from Mom

Mom has a page in her journal she entitled "Miscellaneous, One Time Thing."  The entry goes through the gains we have in Christ.  Sometimes it's good to be reminded of what we were and what we have received.  It reminds us to be grateful and humble before our Lord.  Hopefully these words will bring you to a place of thankfulness and joyfulness today.

Redemption:  Sin separated us but the blood of Jesus purchased us back.

1 Peter 1:18-21  For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value.  It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.  God chose Him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.  Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.

Ephesians 1:7  He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins.

Hebrew 9:22  In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.

Forgiveness:  To put away, our guilt of sin, our penalty of sin.  No forgiveness without the blood of Jesus.  Important word - substitute.

Justified:  Since we have now been justified by His blood.  Romans 5:9  And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.   Negative: declared us guilty.  Positive:  declared us righteous and acceptable.  I have been accepted in the eyes of Christ.

Our access to God:  Prayer, in confidence.   I come to You in the precious blood of Jesus.   1 John 1:7  But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.  No man is a substitute between you and God.  Hebrews 7:14-18  What I mean is, our Lord came from the tribe of Judah, and Moses never mentioned priests coming from that tribe.   This change has been made very clear since a different priest, who is like Melchizedek, has appeared.  Jesus became a priest, not by meeting the physical requirement of belonging to the tribe of Levi, but by the power of a life that cannot be destroyed.  And the psalmist pointed this out when he prophesied,  “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”  Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless.   Our access to God is only because of the blood of Jesus.  It is continuous.

Reconciliation:  Brought us back into a right relationship with God.

Romans 5:10  For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of His Son while we were still His enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of His Son.

Colossians 1:19-22   For God in all His fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through Him God reconciled everything to Himself.  He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.  This includes you who were once far away from God. You were His enemies, separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault.

1 Corinthians 6:19  Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

Sanctification:  Cleansed from our sins.  Set apart for God Himself.  We are notable.  Brought, purchased by a price (Jesus).  Related by the blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 13:12  So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make His people holy by means of His own blood.

1 John 1:7   But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.

Ephesians2   Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.   4 But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of Hs grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.
8 God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.  11 Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. 12 In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. 13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to Him through the blood of Christ.  14 For Christ Himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in His own body on the cross, He broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in Himself one new people from the two groups. 16 Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of His death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.  17 He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from Him, and peace to the Jews who were near. 18 Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.
19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are His house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in Him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22 Through Him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by His Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:20   for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

From me.

Wow.  That's a lot to dwell on...but so absolutely wonderful.  When I read through these verses I feel like my heart sings!  We have so much to be grateful for.  We are so very very blessed.  What a wonderful God we serve...a God who saved us because His love for us is beyond anything we could understand.  Can you imagine, this Being, who created myriads and myriads of universes.  Each unique, complex and incredible.  Our own planet and example of His awesomeness.  This God, completely holy, completely righteous...He comes down to this dusty, dirty planet to save a tiny, corrupt, ungrateful, wretched beings called "us."  He is amazing.  I am truly in awe of this Person.  It is so beneficial for us to take time to go through these "basics" now and again.  This entry was so timely for me.  I pray it is for you as well.

Thank You Lord!!!  A million times thank You!!

Dwell on these truths today.  Take the time to do this.
