Mom wrote a few more pages of her thoughts and study on church. I am still loving the insight of expect to see God a church....something I always just took for granted in a way. When you get down to it, this Christian walk doesn't just happen...it's something we have to be actively seeking, working on, and open during. I am to be a participant not just a bystander watching from the sidelines. That's one of the things this blog is about...looking for God in all our moments, knowing He shows up and is present each and every day. But we need to be watching and open to His entrance into our lives. So lets see what Mom wanted to share on church. Let's see where God shows up today!
Ephesian 1:22-23 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Footnote from the Spirit Filled Bible:
The Church is:
-the present, physical presence of Christ.
-to be filled with Him by the Holy Spirit
-assigned by the Lord Jesus to represent Him, to minister His life, love and power.
Ephesians 2:1-10 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Footnote:
God's power is formidable (awesome), has influenced my life and I am truly transformed by Christ Jesus.
Looks like Mom was seeing that as His church we are in Him and to be like Him, saved and changed by Jesus, and to be an extension of Jesus in this world...sharing God's good news, His love and grace with the world around us.
Lord, help us to see ourselves as You do. Saved. Changed. Make us ambassadors to the lost. We are YOUR masterpieces, doing YOUR work. Lord....make this happen in me. Glorify Your name in Your church today.
